Abstract
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has
emerged as a transformative framework for reshaping the Indian education system
with a focus on holistic learning, inclusivity, skill development, and digital
integration. Odisha, a state with significant socio-cultural diversity and a
large rural and tribal population, has undertaken several reforms in its school
education system in alignment with NEP 2020. This paper critically reflects on
the developments, achievements, opportunities, and challenges experienced by
Odisha’s school education system after the implementation of NEP 2020. The
study highlights the state’s efforts toward foundational literacy and numeracy,
multilingual education, teacher empowerment, technological integration, and
equitable access to quality education. It also examines persistent challenges
such as infrastructural gaps, digital inequality, teacher shortages, and
educational disparities between urban and rural regions. The paper concludes
that while Odisha has shown commendable progress in aligning with the vision of
NEP 2020, sustained policy commitment, teacher capacity-building, and community
participation remain essential for achieving long-term educational
transformation.
