Abstract
Tribal students in India face significant
educational exclusion and underachievement due to deep-rooted socio-cultural
and economic barriers. This paper examines the challenges these students face
in the school system and proposes solutions with a particular focus on teacher
education. It also emphasizes the legacy of Birsa Munda in promoting tribal
pride and cultural integration. The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020
underscores the importance of preparing teachers to work sensitively and
effectively in diverse classrooms, particularly those including tribal
learners. This paper argues that culturally responsive teacher education is
crucial for creating truly inclusive schools that cater to the unique needs of
tribal students.
