The process of street naming is shadowy. Even after guidelines of Ministry of Home Affairs to stop renaming of streets which belong to history, there are even recent cases of street name changes. The decision of what belongs to history and what does not along with who decides all these is debatable issue. A considerable proportion of the streets have been historically named for commemorative purposes. After Independence, there seemed to be a rush in democratizing street names.
